This book, by Caroline Webb, describes some corporate culture insights from behavioral scientists (umbrella for neuroscientists, psychologists, and economists) who look at why we behave the way we do.
First, when companies try to improve their corporate culture, they usually attempt big-ticket interventions (i.e., CEO speech). However, the small items (i.e., how disagreements are handled) are what really define the corporate culture.
Second, many companies’ idea of change management is “giving information equals change in behavior.” The assumption that an audience passively receiving a one-way transmission of information will go and demonstrate new behaviors to support execution is crazy! This is ineffective, as there is no training, no feedback loop and no accountability for behavior change.
Are you “having a good day?”
