A couple of years ago, the American Airlines CEO shared his insights with a group of us in Austin. He had done well to reach the position he was in, and the wisdom was evident:
1. Previous CEO had been a great mentor;
2. Need solid foundation for solid decision making;
3. Career path
a) Do your job to the best of your ability that you have been called to do,
b) Do what is right,
c) Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
4. Wisdom is the confident regard to the complexities of life…not a simple moral rule, thus must be wise enough to make moral decisions in grey area…critical for foundation to be there;
5. Humility/managing pride is difficult at all stages of life;
6. Character, not job, defines who you are;
7. Use success as material for gratitude, use praise as material for humility.
Are you flying high?
