As one company’s CEO transitioned out to make room for a new one, I was at the conference where this company started to “Create Their Future.” The past is a story (they recognized the previous CEO), the future is a possibility (celebrated the new strategy).

With this transition came a new future-state view. Yet, the future must still be informed by past experiences, just not constrained. In this case, there are no breakthroughs, because your predictions are basically just the past pushing forward. Instead, the transition is an opportunity to take a fresh look at identifying breakdowns/gaps in the current state.

While adversity in the future is a given, accomplishment of goals requires perseverance. This requires employees to commit – but before they do this, they need to understand what is possible and how it will be done. Once they commit, a company can work through obstacles, and many times come out with a better opportunity as creativity is driven from the crisis.

Does your organization leverage transitions to “create the future?”
