How do you know your personal priorities?

Look at your calendar.

How do you know your department members’ priorities?

Look at their night/weekend email (i.e., one company turns off their VPN at night to keep people from working…wish I could do the same with the smart phone!).

How do you know your company priorities?

Look at the budget.

How do you know your corporate leader’s priorities?

Look at his/her open door policy  (i.e., Best Buy has leaders in cubicles vs. financial services firm has a separate cafeteria for its executives).

How do you know your country’s priorities?

Look at the average vacation time (i.e., Spain takes daily siestas, Europe takes off August, Australia takes off January, etc.).

While we need priorities, we also need “margin” time, which allows us enough time for recovery and rejuvenation.
