This book by Dave Logan & John King discusses leveraging natural groups to build a thriving organization. Teams are unified through five stages, and each stage has a unique set of leverage points: 

  1. Despair Hostility
  2. Apathetic Victim
  3. Lone Warrior
    • How we teach at universities….knowledge is equated with power
    • Employee seeks outside stimulation not provided at work
    • Most management books write to this stage (i.e. “Here’s how to be better than your peer”)
    • Reject innovations that they did not originate
  4. Tribal Pride
    • Requires an adversary to compare to
    • Shifts from “I” to “we”…a boundary-less network of people
    • The South African term Ubuntu meaning “I am because we are”
    • The more you give to others, the more you get back
    • Takes the blame and passes the praise
  5. Innocent Wonderment
    • Align on a noble cause that is perceived to impact the world
    • Build a legacy
