This book by Dave Logan & John King discusses leveraging natural groups to build a thriving organization. Teams are unified through five stages, and each stage has a unique set of leverage points:
- Despair Hostility
- Apathetic Victim
- Lone Warrior
- How we teach at universities….knowledge is equated with power
- Employee seeks outside stimulation not provided at work
- Most management books write to this stage (i.e. “Here’s how to be better than your peer”)
- Reject innovations that they did not originate
- Tribal Pride
- Requires an adversary to compare to
- Shifts from “I” to “we”…a boundary-less network of people
- The South African term Ubuntu meaning “I am because we are”
- The more you give to others, the more you get back
- Takes the blame and passes the praise
- Innocent Wonderment
- Align on a noble cause that is perceived to impact the world
- Build a legacy
In what stage is your organization?
