It is not the leader who has innovative ideas; instead, it is the leader who creates a culture where innovation thrives! The culture needs to have:
- Vision: direction and purpose to believe in
- Reverse Mentoring: for younger generations to foster collaborative understanding,
- Constructive Challenges: to direct reports’ thinking and behavior
- Dialogue: Seek diverse viewpoints through constant inquiry and questions, internal and external
- Performance management: reward/spotlight contribution to ideas and collaboration
Paint an outline of the future, and then hold your team accountable for “painting the details” on getting there. You can’t micro-manage/joystick your way to success. Management is just your title, yet leadership has to be earned.
How do you lead an innovative culture?
