The days of being a one-country company are gone. The rapid growth of emerging markets provides more global opportunities.

In order to do this, your company must be able to assess:

     · New market potential / economies of scale

     · Talent availability

     · Employee engagement / alignment to a shared vision

     · Government and community relationships

     · New business partnerships.

Many companies have completed the assessment and have created solutions that change their organizational structure, people and processes. One example of this is 102 of Fortune 500 companies located their headquarters in emerging markets in 2012…double the number from the 2008.

Creating a World Enterprise, a Harvard Business Review article, states that instead of an American company treating international activities as subdivisions of their domestic businesses, they should turn the US organization into a subdivision of the wider global one. This article was published in 1959!
