Most change management models discuss what to do to prepare for change; however, they neglect what happens after things “Go Live.”
Sustaining your change successfully is a challenge, as you do not want to slide back to the baseline.
For example, large scale technology implementations require employees to learn different skills, use different information, make different decisions, follow a different set of objectives, and require different kinds of collaboration. It is naïve to think all of this can be accomplished with a few training classes and no ongoing reinforcement.
When a company considers mitigating and managing risk, sustainment is critical; otherwise, you need a backup plan when your change fails fast.
