There are many laws that seem unnecessary to me.  However, do I have the right to break these? The answer is no, so, we need better written laws with which to comply, right?

Would you agree with me that it if you were in a car with no breaks, it would be better to turn the car and hit/kill one person than go straight and hit/kill a group of five? If so, then the law would be written something like this, “When a person has a choice to save one life or five lives, one is required to choose five lives.”

If I were to comply with that law in a different situation, I would have a moral challenge. Suppose I am a doctor with five people on their death beds – one requiring a heart transplant, two more needing a liver, and two more needing a lung – should I follow the law that reads, “When a person has a choice to save one life or five lives, choose five lives”? If so, do I then go to the one healthy person in the waiting room and take their five organs to assist the five dying patients?

Should complying with laws include moral relativism?
