2/3 of business transformations do not adequately meet their objectives, and only 1/10 sustain cost improvements beyond four years. Launching one change program after another, companies continue to see initiatives fail without addressing the reason why. There are many reasons why…programs mismatched with needs, poorly executed initiatives, and not all have the resource capabilities.
For resource capabilities, employees will not necessarily accept change just because of a flash of insight that you shared with them. The employees most heavily invested in the old paradigm will also be the ones most resistant to the change.
Companies need:
- Momentum through direct language and simple terminology. Executive messages need to be powerful, credible, and resonant.
- In addition, the training provided does not result in behavioral change in the workplace. Investments need to be made in experience-based learning, which is a combination of intellectual comprehension and hands-on learning.
- Patience and persistence; yet, there is a sense of urgency that limits this.
