Human behavior is complex, as are the situations in which people find themselves. Rarely is there a playbook for leaders for these situations, and often the decisions are not black and white.
That being said, employees are more satisfied with leaders who demonstrate high character (Brown, Trevino, & Harrison, 2005). They want leaders who “do things right AND do the right thing.” Keep your promises and commitments, attend meetings, and do what you say you will do.
“Let their yes be yes, their no be no, and if they change their minds, they let others know.”
“Leadership is a combination of strategy and character. If you must be without one, be without the strategy.” – H. Norman Schwarzkopf
